Mersal Movie Review

Let's review Mersal! Knowing that this is a "commercial movie", I knew beforehand, that I can't be expecting things such as character development, or exploration of different character arcs, and that I had to expect 5-6 songs, hero-heroine romance, unrealistic fight sequences etc., being simply an entertainment overall. Despite getting tired of these movies for a while, I decided to check out Mersal, mainly due to the huge hype and humongous box office collections it has made. Well.... was it worth the hype? The movie started off pretty decently, giving us a decent intro of our hero(es), played by Vijay. We get to know straight away what this movie is going to deal with, which is the various crimes, murders and other malpractices taking place in the healthcare industry. Which is a pretty good topic to speak about, in my opinion. Scenes which really focused on the major issues with regards to the provision and accessibility of medicinal facilities, requirement ...

IT (2017) Movie Review

You'll float too. You'll float too. You'll float too. You'll float too. YOU'LL FLOAT TOOOOO!!! I was pretty keen on watching this movie after seeing this 1st teaser trailer . The trailer was well made, the music was so goddamn eerie, that even while watching this movie, all I was hoping for was for that damn music to come up. So I was expecting a creepy, scary movie, with good backstory etc. Well, I got some of that, but not all of it..... What I liked about this movie was the creep factor. What this movie really accomplished well, was the creepy, disturbing, eerie imagery. Some of the scenes were really disgusting, a little scary, and some others will make you go "WTF!". Mind you, this movie can get really violent at times, so those who can't stomach it, stay away from it! (No pun intended) The opening scene was pretty good. Great cinematography, atmosphere, lighting. The conversation between this kid and the clown for the first tim...

Game of Thrones Season 7 Review

I have waited so long to talk about one of my favourite shows ever! GAME OF THRONES Yayy!!! Dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun... As like my review of Defenders Season 1 , I'll split my review into the No-Spoiler and Spoiler section, for the benefit of everyone. It's gonna be a looooong one, so take your time. :) THE NO -SPOILER SECTION: (Full disclosure: I have NOT read the books. So I will be reviewing the show for what it is. No comparison to the books or anything) (Also, while this segment is non-spoiler free, it is only w.r.t Season 7, so those who haven't seen the earlier seasons... well, why haven't you watched this excellent show yet? Watch it, and then please do come back :P. It does contain spoilers from earlier seasons only .) Let us now delve into what made this season quite good. Season 7 seems to be a totally different season as compared to the earlier 6. There were some damn good, heart-warming reunions for some characters. The graphics...

The Defenders Season 1 Review

Uh-oh! I expected this to be much better! I am going to split my review into two: The No-Spoiler section & the spoiler section, considering the fact that it hasn't been many days since it has released on Netflix. So everyone can read :) THE NO -SPOILER Part: The Defenders is like your street-level Avengers, where all the main Marvel Netflix characters - Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage & Iron Fist team up. I was so excited for this series ever since they announced this Marvel-Netflix show, and even more after seeing each of the characters' individual shows (excluding Iron Fist, coz if one had read my Review on Iron Fist , they'd know how much I hated it) . The very fact that these completely different, complex and interesting "superheroes" would team up to fight some crazy, evil villain, was a long wait I couldn't bear. This show has some good moments, but it also left me very disappointed in some aspects. I liked how in the beginning they to...

Kong: Skull Island Movie Review

Oh boy. What a bummer. This movie looked so good as per the trailers! (Minor SPOILERS ahead) Kong: Skull Island is another take on King Kong, and this time to build universes! (Sigh!). I haven't watched the 2005 Peter Jackson's version. So I will not be able to draw any comparisons to that, or any of the previous iterations! Usually good action movies either have amazing action sequences, with not much emphasis on the story, some have great action scenes with some good character development and a heart and soul to it, some are just to be viewed as "mind-less popcorn flicks". Kong: Skull Island, in my opinion, failed to be either of these! Good things out first. Kong, visually, looks good. When he is wreaking havoc, it is fun to watch. The locations, and the special effects, were decent. The island was interesting and had a variety of environment, which added some element of anticipation. Some of the monsters were well-designed. Loved that shot of the shad...

Dunkirk Movie Review

Christopher Nolan. This man has continued to impress me ever since Batman Begins in 2005. His realistic, grounded and character driven movies, with engaging screenplay, and some amazing soundtrack/BGM by Hans Zimmer, provides for a memorable movie experience. All his movies are amazing to the level that you could probably call me a "Nolan-fanboy" :P, but don't worry. I'm not one of those extreme types who cannot accept the fact that not all his movies are out-of-this-world or fantastic, and that he does not get everything right! One can just say I love his movies a lot, that's all. ( NO SPOILERS) Hence, you can imagine my excitement for "Dunkirk", a real-life story about the evacuation of 400,000 soldiers stranded on this beach during World War II, waiting to be rescued, that was shot on the actual location, with actual planes and ships! Nolan is known for his minimalistic use of CGI, and you have to appreciate the efforts everyone in the crew takes...

Vikram Vedha Movie Review

It looks like everyone has already watched this movie, and I am probably late in my review :P, but anyways. ( NO SPOILERS) Who is the hero? Who is the villain? Who is the good guy, and who is the bad guy? Can you say for sure?  - This is a very interesting concept which was very nicely brought out in this movie. I was eager to see how well they would explore this concept, with these 2 versatile actors, Madhavan and Vijay Sethupathi. And who would have thought I was in for an engaging, thrilling ride overall! I would like to start by appreciating the performance of Madhavan and Vijay Sethupathy. For Madhavan, a guy who has come a long way from Anbe Sivam to Yaavarum Nalam to Irudhi Suttru and now this, and Vijay Sethupathi, from Soodhu Kavvum to Naanum Rowdy Thaan to a fearful gangster role who provides  occasional comic relief, shows how far both these actors have come. Madhavan plays a hard, no-nonsense cop, who sees black and white and nothing between, and Vijay Sethup...

As I'm Suffering From Kadhal Season 1 Review (Tamil TV Series)

Those who have read my "Introduction to my Blog " post, would know that I never even intended to review Tamil serials, as most of them were same old "maamiyar-marumagal" problems, or romantic relationship dramas extended over 2000000 episodes, with the same thing repeated again and again. I stopped watching Tamil serials for good! And then I stumbled across this Tamil web-series, thanks to a good friend of mine. I would like to straight away go ahead and appreciate Mr. Balaji Mohan and the team for taking this initiative to start a funny, good and heartwarming season-wise split web-series, IN TAMIL! Wow. Who would have thought. It takes real courage to bring out something new, to venture into a risky area, in an industry where no one wants to try that, and where everyone wants to go the 2000000000 episodes route! So let me start with my review ( NO SPOILERS, so chill! :P): The first 4-5 episodes introduced these 4 couples, and the different situations they a...

Spiderman : Homecoming Movie Review

Guess what? This review has NO SPOILERS. Did you read that!? NO SPOILERS. So everyone can read without any problems! Yayyy! :) Spiderman Homecoming is Marvel's (Disney) attempt at the character of "Spiderman", that has already been done twice so far. It shows the events in Peter Parker's life after the events in Captain America : Civil War (so yeah you have to watch that before this), on how he manages his school life and being the "friendly neighbourhood Spiderman". Thankfully, it stands out as a different Spiderman movie, and not the same old "With great power comes great responsibility" and Uncle Ben getting shot and stuff. I feel the movie encapsulated the character of Spiderman quite well. It showed you that after all, Spider"man" was just a kid in a suit. He kept waiting for the call from the Avengers, but he was just a kid with no experience! He needed to prove he was worthy of an Avenger! He had to show that he was something...

13 Reasons Why Season 1 Review

Let me put a few things out there right away: I am going to review this show only from the perspective of it being a "TV show", and as much as possible try not to link it to or relate to actual stuff happening in the real world. The reason simply being, my school was not like this high school. I haven't been in such a "high school" environment. I can safely also say that thankfully I do not have any friends who have or are going through such stages.! So talking about actual stuff that suicidal people in the real world go through, is not possible by me. Just wanted to put that disclaimer out. Moving on to the review, (SPOILERS below): The show is about Hannah Baker, who she is, why she committed suicide, what drove her into doing it. She records 13 tapes, narrating the 13 reasons why she killed herself.  The show portrayed the sad, gloomy environment post Hannah's suicide in the high school, brilliantly. It showed how interactions among students have sev...

The Flash Season 3 Review

(SPOILERS for Flash Season 1-3. Also, minor spoiler from Legends of Tomorrow Season 2 in the 1st paragraph below. Read at your own will.) The Flash. What an amazing, fun and joyful show it was in Season 1 and 2. Season 1 was entertaining and awesome as hell, with the villain-of-the-week stories along with an awesome season-long arch villain for the Flash - Harrison Wells / Reverse Flash(whose character was thankfully explored in much depth in Legends of Tomorrow Season 2). The show was a fresh one, that launched off of Arrow. It slowly introduced us to this world of meta-humans, time travel, paradoxes, speedsters, Speed Force and the like. It was very good! Season 2 went up a notch, introduced to us concepts like multi-verses, dopplegangers, a fearful villain Zoom, who became really menacing at some points, then was just a normal one. (i.e there were some ups and downs with what they did with him) . Season 2 was also overall a very good season, with much better and improved VFX...

Iron Fist Season 1 Review

Hey everyone! So far I have posted reviews of movies and shows that I really liked. Here starts my first negative review of a show that I absolutely did not like due to many reasons. Not everything is good, you see. (SPOILER Alert, as usual. A swear word will be there on a picture attached below. Just thought of letting everyone know) Marvel's Netflix series have been a bit of a mixed bag so far. Daredevil was simply thrilling, the action scenes were realistic, engaging and beautifully shot, the storylines were really interesting and the villains were complex and superb. If anyone asks who are Marvel's best villains (which is very tough to answer, sadly), the common answer you would hear is Loki, but I would add to it "Kilgrave". The stuff with the Hand towards the end of Season 2 (child zombies?) and Blacksmith stuff with the Punisher was kinda weird though. Jessica Jones was simply boring. It had nothing to make us care for Jessica, when she is so careless ...
