As I'm Suffering From Kadhal Season 1 Review (Tamil TV Series)

Those who have read my "Introduction to my Blog" post, would know that I never even intended to review Tamil serials, as most of them were same old "maamiyar-marumagal" problems, or romantic relationship dramas extended over 2000000 episodes, with the same thing repeated again and again. I stopped watching Tamil serials for good!

And then I stumbled across this Tamil web-series, thanks to a good friend of mine.
I would like to straight away go ahead and appreciate Mr. Balaji Mohan and the team for taking this initiative to start a funny, good and heartwarming season-wise split web-series, IN TAMIL! Wow. Who would have thought. It takes real courage to bring out something new, to venture into a risky area, in an industry where no one wants to try that, and where everyone wants to go the 2000000000 episodes route!

So let me start with my review (NO SPOILERS, so chill! :P):
The first 4-5 episodes introduced these 4 couples, and the different situations they are in, in their relationship well. All the 4 had their own moments, were acted out great, and not shown in a cliched manner. It brought up some interesting perceptions made by our Indian society of a live-in relationship, how marriage need not always be the one thing that keeps 2 people in love together, how difficult it is to live alone after being divorced etc. I read somewhere that such live-in relationships do exist, so good job serial! People need to be aware that its not some bad thing to be that way, and that such people do exist in our country!

So the initial few episodes had a few funny moments here and there. The English was a bit too much in the beginning. It felt weird hearing it in a Tamil series at first. Also, the formula seemed to be a bit repetitive in the first few episodes. Music was kinda repetitive (still liked it though), and the jokes were good, that's all. It was going fine, just some good time-pass to watch.

And then it struck the right notes from episode 6/7 onwards. Some big twists happened, the English dialogues started to reduce and blend well with the Tamil, the situations became more touching and emotional, and the jokes becoming more and more better. This is what made me really like this show. It had the right balance of humor and sentiment, and boy did it work so well in this show! I literally started to laugh-out-loud in some scenes! I started to care more and more for them, I wanted some of them to reunite, some of them to settle their differences, some of them to just speak the truth out!

I must point out the acting, the writing, the directing and the storytelling of the show overall. Absolutely superb! From the opening title song, to the way each relationship was explored, to the way each episode was titled exploring the various aspects in a relationship, seemed to be properly, well-planned and thought out. The acting was natural and realistic. Everyone had equal screen time, and no character was wasted! By the end, it really showed you how things have changed drastically in all the 4 relationship situations. As in any series, it left Season 1 with pretty good cliffhangers!

Oh and just a warning. This show contains QUITE A LOT OF SWEARING. When I was watching this on Hotstar, I read some comments below on how some of them had problems with it, but I just couldn't understand why! The advantage of not doing it on cable TV and here instead is the extra freedom of speech we have while doing a web-series. Didn't understand why some people would be bothered by it, when the truth is that we all chat this way casually and regularly!

All in all, a funny, entertaining web-series that has opened up a new window for Tamil film & TV industry. As stated earlier, I really liked the fact that they made it just 1 season containing only 10 episodes, and not making it go 1000 and bore us. It seems like we are finally venturing out into new areas, and that's a sigh of relief!

My rating would probably be around say 8/10. Gotta appreciate the effort and risk taken to make this type/concept of a show. I feel so happy that amongst the many English TV series I am yet to watch, I have a Tamil one to watch too:). Bring on Season 2!!!

Feel free to leave your comments. Have a good day :)

Spiderman : Homecoming Movie Review

Guess what? This review has NO SPOILERS. Did you read that!? NO SPOILERS. So everyone can read without any problems! Yayyy! :) Spiderman Homecoming is Marvel's (Disney) attempt at the character of "Spiderman", that has already been done twice so far. It shows the events in Peter Parker's life after the events in Captain America : Civil War (so yeah you have to watch that before this), on how he manages his school life and being the "friendly neighbourhood Spiderman". Thankfully, it stands out as a different Spiderman movie, and not the same old "With great power comes great responsibility" and Uncle Ben getting shot and stuff. I feel the movie encapsulated the character of Spiderman quite well. It showed you that after all, Spider"man" was just a kid in a suit. He kept waiting for the call from the Avengers, but he was just a kid with no experience! He needed to prove he was worthy of an Avenger! He had to show that he was something...

IT (2017) Movie Review

You'll float too. You'll float too. You'll float too. You'll float too. YOU'LL FLOAT TOOOOO!!! I was pretty keen on watching this movie after seeing this 1st teaser trailer . The trailer was well made, the music was so goddamn eerie, that even while watching this movie, all I was hoping for was for that damn music to come up. So I was expecting a creepy, scary movie, with good backstory etc. Well, I got some of that, but not all of it..... What I liked about this movie was the creep factor. What this movie really accomplished well, was the creepy, disturbing, eerie imagery. Some of the scenes were really disgusting, a little scary, and some others will make you go "WTF!". Mind you, this movie can get really violent at times, so those who can't stomach it, stay away from it! (No pun intended) The opening scene was pretty good. Great cinematography, atmosphere, lighting. The conversation between this kid and the clown for the first tim...

Vikram Vedha Movie Review

It looks like everyone has already watched this movie, and I am probably late in my review :P, but anyways. ( NO SPOILERS) Who is the hero? Who is the villain? Who is the good guy, and who is the bad guy? Can you say for sure?  - This is a very interesting concept which was very nicely brought out in this movie. I was eager to see how well they would explore this concept, with these 2 versatile actors, Madhavan and Vijay Sethupathi. And who would have thought I was in for an engaging, thrilling ride overall! I would like to start by appreciating the performance of Madhavan and Vijay Sethupathy. For Madhavan, a guy who has come a long way from Anbe Sivam to Yaavarum Nalam to Irudhi Suttru and now this, and Vijay Sethupathi, from Soodhu Kavvum to Naanum Rowdy Thaan to a fearful gangster role who provides  occasional comic relief, shows how far both these actors have come. Madhavan plays a hard, no-nonsense cop, who sees black and white and nothing between, and Vijay Sethup...
