Aquaman Movie Review

James Wan. Who knew that a guy so good at directing horror films, can direct a movie about a comic book character who usually is the butt of the jokes, and change him into an interesting character worthy of his own standalone movie. Aquaman is a movie that everyone had high hopes on, after the disappointment that was Justice League. This movie became the sole deciding factor as to the future of the DC cinematic universe. Does it live up to the expectations? Without further ado, let's dive into the review! Source:  https://www.dccomics.com/blog/2018/07/16/home-is-calling-in-official-aquaman-poster To start with, the movie was a visual masterpiece. The CGI in this movie was very well done. The underwater city of Atlantis was brought out in all its glory. The structures, the underwater creatures, the locations were colorful, vibrant and eye-pleasing. It’s an underwater fantasy world as diverse and spectacular as you could hope for, and it’s one that keeps ...

Ratsasan Movie Review

With so many good Tamil movies running in theatres these days, I had to watch at least a few of them. I randomly picked to see "Ratsasan" last week, and thank God, I chose to watch this movie! When you go into a movie, having zero expectations, you would enjoy the movie that much more. And that made this movie a pleasant surprise for me. A thriller is supposed to keep you hooked, make you wonder "What's next?" or "Who could the killer be?", throw clues at you: the minute details here and there .... and let you figure out the mystery along with our protagonist. Ratsasan delivers on all these and makes it an enjoyable movie watching experience. The movie, although 2 hours 50 minutes long, does not feel so. That in itself is a great thing. Starting with the story, well done for a thriller. The movie starts off on a good note, setting up the tone and environment the movie is going to show, gives you a good glimpse of what this killer is capable of, ...

Tamil Padam 2 Movie Review

Spoof movies usually don't work for me. In English, I have watched few of the "Scary Movie" series, which were decent, few minutes of "Meet the Spartans" which I couldn't bear, and a few other. In Tamil, I've only heard of 2 such "spoof movies": Tamil Padam 1, and this one. Hence going into this movie, I was a bit skeptical, as to whether it will be a bit too much, or too many jokes would get irritating after a while. So how was Tamil Padam 2? Well, it was one of the best and the funniest movie I've seen in a long time!! (Source:  Thamizh Padam 2 - IMDb ) Man, this movie was such a laugh riot. From Baahubali to Mersal to Vedhalam to Game of Thrones and many more (seriously, many more) , no one is spared in this parody movie. The jokes were funny, decent (in the sense, not being too vulgar), and they kept coming, which leaves you entertained for almost 95% of the movie. If I, a guy who watches only a few Tamil movies, got 70% of th...

Tik Tik Tik Movie Review

If you'd told me 10 years ago, that a Tamil, hell even an Indian space film was going to be made, I would not believe you, at all. Technology, audience preferences and producers' risk-taking have significantly improved or changed for the better over the years; and here we are with the 1st Indian space film, "Tik Tik Tik", directed by Shakti Soundar Rajan, who previously ventured into the new "zombie" genre for Tamil cinema. I like it when directors experiment by exploring new genres, and this movie sure is one of such experiments. (Source: Tik Tik Tik Movie Poster ) First things first, the VFX is quite commendable for a 1st time effort. They were very impressive and believable  (although the teaser trailer had almost spoilt the entire thing) , and considering the budget, time and other constraints, it worked, as I did get convinced they really are in space. I also liked the 1st half, where the build-up to the space adventure took place: What e...

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (Jurassic World 2) Movie Review

Dinosaurs! Who would have thought Steven Spielberg could re-create these long extinct creatures in Jurassic Park 1, in such a magnificent way, perfectly capturing its grandeur. 2 sequels followed, a reboot/sequel of sorts (Jurassic World), and now here we are with the sequel to that reboot. Source:  Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom | Universal Pictures Let's get this out first. This movie is your typical "popcorn movie", meaning no expectations of any out-of-this-world story, compelling characters, great and/or realistic story-telling etc. All you'd expect is interesting dinosaurs, great CGI, and an overall enjoyable movie, where the "enjoyment" differs from person to person. Jurassic World 2 hits the similar beats. You have the cool dinosaurs (CGI is quite good) , characters mumbling some dinosaurs and DNA stuff, entertaining action sequences, some 2nd villain who has to hate the dinosaurs and our heroes so that you root for him to die, our heroes e...
